The Gunners have yet to officially confirm the deal, but he has undergone a medical at the club’s London Colney training ground.

Vieira, a versatile attacking midfielder, rose through the youth ranks at Porto and helped them win the Portuguese title last season.

The Portugal Under-21 international enjoyed a breakthrough year last season, racking up six goals and 14 assists in 27 league appearances for Porto to help the club win a 30th league title.

No Arsenal player has been involved in so many goals in the 2021-22 Premier League campaign and Vieira joins a promising group of creative talent including Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Arteta has already signed teenage striker Marquinhos and Vieira’s arrival is a huge boost, given that Arsenal’s Big Six rivals have moved quickly to strengthen in key areas.
