JAMMU: A two-day training program on producing quality spawn for mushroom cultivation was held today at the Mushroom Unit, SKUAST-J here under the aegis of the National Training Institute agricultural management and extension (SAMETI).
The training program was organized for officers of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. The program was inaugurated by Dr. SK Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu and Director SAMETI.
The trainees received hands-on training on various aspects of producing quality spawn from different mushrooms.
During the training program, special lectures and practical sessions were held on the preparation of media and substrate for spawn production. Participants were exposed to technical advances in the field of spawn production such as liquid spawn. Interactive sessions took place between the experts and the participants during which the participants clarified their doubts on the quality parameters of the blank and the practical problems they encounter in the production of blank. The training program was coordinated by Dr. Sachin Gupta, Associate Professor and Course Coordinator under the guidance and guidance of Professor Amrish Vaid, Head of Plant Pathology Division. Participants in the training program expressed great satisfaction and hoped for the speedy establishment of more spawning production laboratories in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to reduce the reliance of mushroom growers on screws from spawning labs in other states.
