Solving the problem of vacancies is all about changing people’s skills, according to Julie Torrance, employment and training manager at PHX Training.
Julie said: âThe problem is not that there aren’t enough people to fill the vacancies, but that they have to be retrained before they can start a career in a different industry.
âPeople can’t go from being a security guard at a concert to working on a construction site without some basic skills.
âOur work with PeoplePlus and Lancashire Local Enterprise Partnership will allow us to identify companies that are struggling to hire and create a plan to organize training courses relevant to these jobs so that people can acquire the skills needed to become employable. in this sector.
âOnce we start helping people access these positions, we can also develop a training plan so that they continue to develop and learn on the job by starting apprenticeships, internships or continuing education so that they can continue to develop and learn on the job. that they can make a career in their new role. . “
