National nonprofit that brings the arts to kids hires new leaders to expand reach and funding at critical time for education in America
New York, NY, Nov 01, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – ProjectArt, a 501c3 nonprofit founded by CNN Hero, Adarsh Alphons, with a mission to provide arts education for children and support local creators , has just announced his latest impressive hire. Starting November 1, Claire Breukel, industry leader in nonprofit and artistic partnering strategies, will join the New York-based company as Executive Director. ProjectArt works with libraries across America to provide free art lessons to thousands of children in underserved communities. With the pandemic, the need for after-school education programs has exploded and the mission and reach of ProjectArt has increased dramatically as a result. With this increased demand and a changing educational environment, Claire’s arrival comes at an opportune time for the necessary growth of the organization.
“I founded ProjectArt 10 years ago to make sure that kids who didn’t have access to arts education had a safe place to go – our public libraries – and have a creative outlet through art classes. ‘free art,’ comments ProjectArt founder Adarsh Alphons. “Currently, 11 million American children are unsupervised from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., 4 million do not receive an arts education, and more than 280,000 visual artists are currently unemployed. Born in South Africa, Claire Breukel came to the United States through the Rubell Family Collection and served as the Executive Director of Locust Projects, a world-renowned non-profit organization. She has since worked in the arts and sponsorship world, with terms as curator at PUMA.Creative, an art partnerships strategist for the Miami Design District, the City of Bal Harbor and the Miami Downtown Development Authority, where she founded two programs, Art Days and Fringe Projects. She spent 10 years with the Robert S. Wennett and Mario Cader-Frech Foundation leading their YES Contemporary art program and co-produced two successful auctions, including the 2013 auction (RED) hosted by Jony Ive and Marc Newson which raised US $ 26.2 million. in the fight against AIDS, and the auction (RED) in 2018 organized by David Adjaye and Theaster Gates, both in collaboration with Sotheby’s and Gagosian
