Punjab to set up its very first aviation museum in Patiala • 100 knots

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has approved the establishment of an aviation museum at the civil airfield in Patiala. Mann gave his endorsement to the proposal made by the Punjab State Civil Aviation Board.

Mann said Punjab’s century-old history in the civil aviation sector should be showcased for the knowledge and education of generations to come.

He said the proposed Punjab Aviation Museum would be established at the civil airfield in Patiala, adding that it was to exhibit the history and artefacts of the aviation sector in the state. Apart from replica airplanes, photographs, maps, models, schematics, clothing, and equipment used by airmen can also be exhibited in this museum.

The Patiala Aviation Complex, a heritage institution spread over 350 acres, will house the proposed museum with a built-up area of ​​1 lakh square feet. The museum will be housed on a site of approximately 2.21 acres.

The Patiala Flying Club, Punjab Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering College and Polo Grounds are also located inside the Aircraft Complex on Sangrur Road in Patiala.

The CM said that the future museum should also have sets of periodicals, technical manuals, photographs and personal archives, which are often made available to aviation researchers for the writing of articles or books or aircraft restoration specialists working to restore an aircraft.

Spread over an area of ​​350 acres, the Patiala Aeronautical Complex is a heritage institution that was established in the first decade of the 20th century.

The future complex of the Aviation Museum will include the main museum building, a semi-covered exhibition area for some contemporary and vintage aircraft, an audiovisual room, an interactive learning center-workshop for school children and an amphitheater, a souvenir shop, and a cafeteria.

The former Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh, is known to be the Indian who owns an airplane. He had purchased a Bristol Boxkite aircraft in 1911, making Patiala the home of India’s legacy of aviation history.

The club already has a Cessna 172 single-engine glass cockpit simulator for instrument flight and instrument procedures training, state-of-the-art training aids, a well-equipped library and classrooms. modern classrooms for ground training.

Mann instructed the Public Works Department to execute the entire project in a smooth and results-oriented manner to ensure it is completed on schedule.

The architectural firm SMG Design, based in Hyderabad, has entrusted the planning and design project for the museum. Led by architect Srinivas Murthy, the firm has undertaken many major museum projects, including the Sea Harrier Museum and the Underwater Museum being built in Visakhapatnam.
