Second virtual community meeting planned for new El Paso police and joint firefighter training center
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The public is invited by the El Paso City Capital Improvement Department to the second virtual community meeting at the proposed site for the new Joint Police and Police Training Center firefighters.
Officials said the meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 1 at 6 p.m.

The new training academy is one of the flagship projects of the 2019 public safety obligation approved by the voters. This bond program aims to strengthen the operational efficiency of public security services to meet the needs of a growing community through new police and fire facilities and equipment and the renovation of existing facilities.
The proposed site is currently vacant in northeast El Paso and located north of the North Hills Subdivision.
Officials said preliminary estimates indicate the proposed development would occupy approximately 50 to 100 acres and be surrounded by more than 1,400 acres of dedicated open space to act as a noise and view buffer for adjacent neighborhoods, the Roundhouse Trails. and Lazy Cow, and nearby open space. The common academy will have the following equipment:
Fire training accessories
Indoor shooting range
White water rescue pool
Classrooms / auditorium
· Fitness room
A simulation room
Police tactical training center
Mock courtroom
Emergency vehicle training area
Parking that can be used by visitors to the trail outside of opening hours
The Joint Training Center campus is to be co-located with a new fire department headquarters and a fire vehicle maintenance and logistics center to maintain the fire department fleet vehicles and household supplies for fire stations throughout the community, city officials said.
