Organizer Jack Trout is asking all alumni of all schools in Plumas County to consider coming back and donating or helping the Sierra Schools Foundation in any way. Children need inspiration, mentors, hobbies and stories more than ever. “Those of us who have succeeded through the education we received as a child in Plumas schools can now come back and pass the torch,” Trout said. “Together we can easily make this event a success for the kids, it feels good.”

A little history

Founded in July 2011, the Sierra Schools Foundation is now in its 11th year and is proud to announce that it has funded over $400,000 to support public schools in the Sierra-Plumas Joint School District.

During the Foundation’s Spring 2017 grant cycle, programming was expanded to include an annual grant opportunity for high school seniors to apply for our “Dream Big” senior project funding where each approved student receives up to $500 for his senior project.

Additionally, during COVID, funding was provided for programs supporting social and emotional learning for teachers and students, care and wellness packages were distributed to all teachers, aides and students and Touchless water fountains have been purchased and installed on all campuses to improve drinking water. and making sites safer for students returning to school.

In an effort to continue programs that provide each student with a unique opportunity to explore, appreciate and preserve their “roots” and the rural landscape that shaped them, while providing them with the “boots” – or skills, training and experiences – to enter their future prepared and inspired for what lies ahead, the Sierra Schools Foundation will host its annual “Swinging for the Schools” golf tournament fundraiser.
